Dear Sanford Area Soccer League Family,
Thank you so much for being part of our soccer family this Spring. As most of you already know, the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (SASL’s governing body) has cancelled the spring soccer season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While we are disappointed to not be able to see all of our players and families at the soccer fields, it was a necessary decision for public health. We know that in some ways soccer is just a game, but we also know that it’s a tool that helps our children grow physically, mentally, and socially. For that reason, this cancellation is a huge blow for SASL and the families who depend on us to provide a safe environment for that growth.
We also want you to know about SASL’s financial situation as we are not capable of having a general meeting. Our fees are much lower than other clubs and are comparable to recreation leagues subsidized by taxes in other counties. The operations of the club are financed from registration fees and through the generosity of our sponsors. The reality of being a non-profit focused on maximum value means we simply do not have much cushion in our finances. We are looking at ways to reduce our costs going forward into the Fall. We want to be fair to our players and families, and also want to make sure that our league can continue to operate for future seasons.
As our Executive Director, Mary-Jo Thompson, has mentioned, we have three options regarding your registration fees for the Spring 2020 season. We hope you will consider donating your registration fee to the league. Since we are a non-profit organization your donation is tax deductible and we will provide the appropriate documentation if you choose this option. This would help minimize the impact of this lost season. Your second option involves converting your registration fee to a voucher for the Fall 2020 season. Finally, if neither of these options works for you we can provide a percentage refund of your registration fee. For families with special circumstances who feel that these options do not meet their needs, please contact Mary-Jo Thompson via email and she will bring your concerns to the Board of Directors.
It is an honor to provide soccer opportunities for the youth of this community. We are striving to ensure a safe environment for our players, and we look forward to seeing you all this Fall.
